تعتبر الأحساء من أشهر مناطق زراعة التمور وكافة المحاصيل الزراعية في العالم لما تتمتع به من وفرة في المياه حيث اشتهرت الأحساء بزراعة النخيل وتجاوز عددها مليوني نخلة .
وتعتبر الأحساء من أكبر الواحات الزراعية بالعالم حيث اشتهرت بزراعة النخيل والتي يعد تمورها من اجود انواع التموربالمملكه والخليج العربي بجانب الرز الاحسائي والتي اشتهرت بزراعته منطقة الاحساء والذي يعود اصله كما هو مذكور الى الهند ويقال ايضا العراق الا ان منطقة الاحساء ومنذو القدم عرفت بانها هي الموطن الام لهذا النوع من الارز حيث اشتهرت بزراعته ببعض مناطقها وتعتبر بلدة القرين هي الاشهر بزراعته والافضل من حيث الجوده والمذاق لدى المستهلك وتاتي بلدتنا المطيرفي كأحدى االمناطق الاحسائيه التي اشتهرت ايضا بزراعة الرز الحساوي فهناك عوائل منذو القدم بالقريه دأبة على زراعته وفي طليعتها اسرة الناجم ممثله بالمرحومين الحاج ماجد والحاج عبدالمحسن الناجم وابنائهم الذين لازالوا محافظين على تلك المهنه وايضا اسرة البجحان متمثله بالمرحومين الحاج صالح والحاج حسين وابنه الحاج حجي وكذلك اسرة البخيتان ممثلة بالمرحوم طاهر مبارك البخيتان وايضا ابنه المرحوم الحاج محمد واخوته وايضا اسرة الحجي ممثلة بالمرحوم الحاج محمد والمرحوم الحاج ناصر والعم حسين الحجي اطال الله بعمره وايضا اسرة العلي ممثله بالاخوين الكريمين الحاج حجي والحاج حسين وايضا اسرة المازني والحسن ( السلطان ) ممثلة بالمرحوم الحاج احمد المازني والحاج المرحوم عبدالله الحسن ( السلطان ) وايضا اسرة الهاشم ممثلة بالمرحومين السيد عبدالهادي الهاشم واخيه السيد حسين الهاشم وكذالك اسرة الخويتم ممثلة بالاخوين المرحومين عبدالمحسن صالح الخويتم واخيه احمد الخويتم .
وينقسم الرز الحساوي إلى عدة أنواع حساوي هجين ممتاز وحساوي هجين متوسط وأرز محلي أصلي.
ويتميز كل صنف يخصائص معينة ويمكن لذوي الخبرة معرفة تمييز كل صنف على حدة.
يتميز الأرز الحساوي الأصلي بلونه الأحمر الغامق أو الفاتح أحياناً حسب البذرة المزروعة.
ويعتبر الرز الحساوي من النباتات الصيفية التي تزرع في المناطق الحارة كمنطقة الاحساء ويتحمل درجة حرارة قد تصل أحيانا إلى 48 درجة وهو من التباتات التي تتطلب عناية فائقة في الري بعد الزراعه وذها ما يتميز به المزارع الاحسائي في منطقة الأحساء كما ان هذا النوع من الرز يزرع في أقطارعربية أخرى أيضاً إذا توفرت له تربة مناسبة كتربة الأحساء الا انه يختلف عن الرز الاحسائي بأنه لا يعطي نفس الطعم والجودة كتلك التي يعطيها الرز الذي بزرع بمنطقة الأحساء.
ومن هنا نجد المزارع الاحسائي على تهيئة الارض الصالحه لزراعة الرز حيث يقوم ببذرها وسقيها حتى ان تنبت شتلته ومن بعدها يقوم بنجف تلك الشتلات المتقاربه من بعضها البعض لتسنيتها في ضواحي اخرى تكون قد اعدت وسقيت بالماء لتكون مهيئته وصالحه لغرس الشتلات بها بعد نجفها من ضواحيها السابقه .
